A Look at the Different Types of Fishing Lures

There are numerous fishing lures for you to choose from in the wonderful world of fishing equipment today. With so many lures out there, let us take a look at some of the different types of fishing lures.

Spoons- Of the millions of lures, the spoon is the simplest. These lures are called spoons due to the fact that they resemble a kitchen spoon. The wobbling motion that a spoon does is what attracts the fish to it. Being affordable and easy to use, this is the perfect lure for the beginner.

Spinners- A spinner lure is a lure that has a built in spindle which allows the lure to rotate while being retrieved. While the lure rotates light reflects off of the lure mimicking other fish’s features such as scales and movements. This is a good lure to use because you can verify the retrieval depth plus you can change the rotation speed of the lure by changing the retrieval speed.

Surface Lures- If you are looking for the thrill of watching the fish actually take the bait, and then you want to use a surface lure. Seeing this in action is very exciting. When a fish goes for a surface lure, you can actually see the fish exit the water. If fishing somewhere weeds are bountiful, then you want to use a surface lure since that what is designed for.

Suspending plugs- A lure that has been cast and submerges to a certain depth and stays at the depth is known as a suspending lure. This type of lure is perfect for fish that have hidden in weeds or rocks. Use this lure by giving it a small jerk to allow it to show some life and attract the fish.

Floating Drivers- A must have for all fishermen, the floating diver have a wide scope of diving depth. A floating diver can dive from just below the surface of the water up to 15 feet. The point of view from the vane to the body of the lure establishes the diving depth of the lure. A lure with less of a body angle the deeper the dive. The size of the lure also contributes to the type of movement the makes.

Sinking Plugs- Deep water fishing is where the sinking plug lures work the best. As soon as the desired depth is reached then you can start retrieval of the lure. After casting but before retrieval start counting. When a fish hits the lure you have reached your desired depth. By counting you are ensured to have the correct depth every time.

Soft Baits- Soft baits are rubber baits that come in various shapes, sizes, and colors. Soft baits are a common bait whether you are fishing in fresh water or salt water.

Jerk Baits- The term jerk bait means that the bait has no natural movement in the water. Life is given to this lure by small jerks on the line while being retrieved. The purpose of the jerk bait resembles that of an injured fish that may seem tempting to the predator fish.
